My wife was gifted this 'local produce' every week thing where they bring us a bag of fruits and veggies. Week one: bunch of nasty crap like kale, arugula, weird squashes and somehow..........Oranges. Now, somehow I doubt there's a local farm in VA with an orange crop in VA. Da fuq. I called the company just to see what the deal was (not really angry or anything just curious, it was free food after all.) Turns out the company line is: "It's grown by local farmers in Venezuela".
Alright hippies...keep on savin' the world.

So basically anything is local if the field workers from wherever live near where the also work — hmm.
